Buddypress members access enquiry

Sorry to be bothering the community with such a trivial query, but I am on my first BP install and I have a question.
BTW I am running WP 3.4.2 and BP 1.6.1 with the Salutation theme.
I am setting-up a private BP site for Maritime Security Professionals to indulge in peer-to-peer communication and supplier reviews/analysis away from prying eyes. A private forum where they can discuss pertinent issues and agree in principle to better maritime security practices.
My problem is that I don’t want these members/contributors to get access to the dashboard, not because I’m afraid they’ll do anything, but because it will scare them – these aren’t very IT literate people. I just want them to have full access to the site. Access will be completely restricted to non registered users.
Their communication will be in the form of comments, forum posts, group communication etc, they will not be adding media/writing posts etc. That will all be done by the management team.
Do I need a plugin to manage this? As it appears that the standard BP register process gives them access to a limited dashboard. Perhaps I am doing something wrong…
Any help/pointers would be awesome!
