I cannot get the create a new account in my side bar to work. all it does once clicked is go to another page which displays register please help!!

To start, are you using the BuddyPress Default theme?

yes i am. i tried others and still have same issue.

Did you install BuddyPress correctly? Did you go through the install wizard?
