BuddyPress not working in Google App Engine for PHP

Hi,
I’ve been able to setup WordPress 3.5.2 in Google App Engine PHP SDK. The WP blog is running without any issues.
However, if I install Buddypress, the requests are getting redirected to /register and it goes into a loop.
I believe the issue is because of the redirect issues (although I tried setting the permalink to something other than default). My app.yaml is pretty much the same as documented here
Can you guide me on how to setup the redirects right? What redirect rules that BP expects?
