Button on Profile Linking to Author Page

I have been following the posts on fixing the BP Posts in Profile plugin which is still unresolved. I also would like to find a way to show member posts in their profile. Linking to the author page seems like a more simple solution.
Can someone help me first to locate the php file for the author page (mysite/author/username) so that I can style the header and include some extended profile information.
Secondly can someone tell me how to link to an author page from the member profile. A button in the member profile that links to the author page seems like a good idea for a plugin.
