Can I limit members to a predetermined list?

Sorry the complete newbie question, can’t find the answer before I embark on a BP quest. I want to build a BP site for an existing group with a list that I already have. Is there a plugin or way to do this or do I have to manually add all members myself? Is this possible with BP or should I look elsewere?

After looking some more I found s2Members Pro does make this possible but this is a volunteer en-devour and I don’t need all the other functions of s2Member, I was hoping to avoid the expense. Any other suggestions?

Surely you could just add the user accounts into WordPress as usual (via wp-admin, if you want)? When those people log in to the site, they’ll then have the option of completing their BuddyPress profile.

That seem to be the easiest, just add everyone in my self and let them know their LI and PW. Thanks Paul.
