Can’t upload Group Avatars

    I’m getting an odd error message:

    Upload Failed! Error was: The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/group-avatars/4/group-avatars/4

    Note the repeated “group-avatars/4” in the message.

    The file is getting uploaded to “wp-content/uploads/group-avatars/4/” but doesn’t appear on the group.

    I have tried uninstalling and re-installing BuddyPress and bbPress but am still stuck, any ideas please?

    WP version: 4.3.1–en_GB
    BuddyPress: Version 2.3.4
    bbPress: Version 2.5.8
    Theme: CustomizrVersion 3.4.13

    Tried it with Twenty-Thirteen theme as well – same result.

    Can’t link to site as currently in development and not public but I can provide secure access if needed.

    I’ve also tried re-installing WordPress and disabling all other plugins.

    Then tried deleting all plug-ins and re-installing WordPress and BuddyPress only, and still the same issue.

    That is odd.
    It’s difficult to suggest a solution when replicating the issue is nigh impossible.
    But maybe more info about the issue can be generated…

    Try using a WP theme like 2013, deactivating bbPress and turning debug on in wp-config.php

    The file is getting uploaded to “wp-content/uploads/group-avatars/4/” but doesn’t appear on the group.

    Does anything appear on the group? View source or use a browser code inspector to take a close look.

    Hi shane, thanks for the very prompt response – I’m getting nothing on screen with debug on and nothing in the file if I also switch the debug log file on.

    This is with BuddyPress active, bbpress de-activated and with t013 theme and no other plug-ins installed.

    I have the same (or very similar) error with member avatars.

    Upload Failed! Error was: The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/avatars/1/avatars/1.

    I’ve not seen your issue before.
    It may be a bug.
    You can submit a possible bug here.
    Be sure to include info about the browser you’re using and the hosting environment.

    Hi, we’re having exactly the same problem with not being able to upload avatar photos, and we have the repeated path in the error message, e.g.: Upload Failed! Error was: The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/avatars/9/avatars/9.

    We are on a fresh (< 1 week old) 1-click WordPress installation, with BuddyPress, bbPress and a few other plugins.

    Did you have any joy with resolving this issue please?
