Changing Buddypress back to root blog

A year or so ago, I switched buddypress to it’s own blog using the BP_ROOT_BLOG variable. Now, the main blog is no long longer being updated and I would like to switch buddypress back to the main blog.
current buddypress is at mydomain.com/community and I would like it to be back to mydomain.com
I have tried giving the BP_ROOT_BLOG variable the value of 1, enabled the buddypress theme and made sure all the plugins I was using were activated on the main blog.
After I do all of this the main blog is just a white screen.
Any thoughts?
