Chat Rooms, Chat Scripts – Any Recommendations?

Though not necessarily a BP thing I am looking for a good chat script. I have tried a few and decided to BuddyPress Chat Component but it is shutting down rather frequently and giving 503 errors. Is this due to the script or maybe server / CPU issues? Either way, do any of you use other chat scripts and what has been your experience?

3 come to mind right off the bat:

Comet Chat seems to work out of the box on BP, but it comes with a pricetag: http://www.cometchat.com/buy
Bowob Chat has both free and premium versions, but the free one comes with ads: http://buddypress.bowob.com/
And then there’s Brajesh’s BP-Chat, but it’s still being developed: http://buddydev.com/buddypress/bp-chat-a-facebook-like-chatting-plugin-for-buddypress/

The Results are in!
BOWOB does not function. Breaks the theme. Awaiting response from developer.
BP-Chat does not function. Been in beta 2 for ages. Does not recognize when members are logged in and the time for users to display in chat is so long most peeps gave up.
Looks like I will get cometchat.

I am using bp ajax chat free version https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-ajax-chat/ (adsense present), paid version here: http://dynamicendeavorsllc.com/2011/01/25/bp-chat-no-adsense/
Works pretty well so far, but I do not know how to customize it
