Creating team groups

Hi! Pre-build/sandbox on current WP/BP: want to create a team-based community with no overlap between groups/no public space whatsoever. Initial user initiates a group and others can join it as their team; that is the only content they see and it is not discoverable or accessible by other groups/members.
Not finding an easy avenue to quite this functionality so far, any advice?
