Updated the topic with reference to what versions I´m using so its not getting confused with the already solved topics
I have the same problem guys. Using the same versions of buddypress and wp.
http://www.avesso.com.br/social
The upload works. The images are there, but doesn`t show on site.
Could this be related to the newest release of WP (3.0.1)? I´m 100% positive that this worked just before my reinstall using 3.0+1.2.5
I think this problem stars when I made a new installation with this versions too.
Please note this as a bug on Trac:

Ok sure,
I made a poor attempt to create my first ticket. It can be found here: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2574
Hopefully there’s an easy solution!
Any solutions to this problem?
Not sure this is exactly the same issue, but looking for input. I’m a brand new buddypress user testing a site. Unless someone already has an avatar in wordpress.org (not .com) photos cannot be uploaded. The error message is “Unable to create directory /home/natural/domains/natural-leader.com/public_html/wp-content/uploads/avatars/3. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
Can anyone tell me if this is an issue with buddpress or somewhere else such as the domain host? If buddypress, does anyone know how to fix?
Alice, that is a different issue. You just need to set appropriate write permissions on the upload folder. You may be able to do that with your FTP client.
I suddenly lost my custom avatars…. after trying and searching for several hours (!) I discovered I had 2 files in my /upload directory: .htpasswd and .htaccess. I renamed both files and my custom avatars showed up again!
This issue is fixed in BP 1.3.
