Custom filters on codex up to date?

I’ve been trying to find a way to get something like “Most Liked” posts in my activity feed. I’ve been looking and testing with these custom filters in the codex at https://codex.buddypress.org/plugindev/add-custom-filters-to-loops-and-enjoy-them-within-your-plugin/#build-a-new-great-feature-thanks-to-the-favorite-an-activity-functionality but i can’t seem to get this working. The github offered hasn’t been updated since 2015, which is a shame. Can anyone help?
