Courseware: Confused about the install

    @brian47374

    Okay, I’m totally new to bbpress and BuddyPress so please bear with me. First of all, I installed BuddyPress 1.1-beta 1and activated it and I go to Settings and I get 3 options. Components, Pages, and Settings. I have those setup. Should I be seeing more at this point or not?

    I am currently running WP 5.3.1. I’ve installed bbPress (2.3-beta 2) with no “issues”.While trying to install BuddyPress (1.7-beta1) and getting the BuddyPress Courseware (0.9.7) plugin installed, unfortunately I’m not seeing what I should according to the screenshots. According to the documentation (http://buddypress.coursewa.re/handbook.html) BuddyPress should be appearing directly under the Dashboard sidebar menu. And as a menu option I should be seeing Courseware. However, I’m not seeing that. What I am seeing is under Settings there is BuddyPress and at the same level is Courseware. Shouldn’t it be BuddyPress/Courseware?

    Why I chose beta on both BuddyPress and BuddyPress Courseware was because of my theme. I experienced the “same issues” with BuddyPress 1.6.4.

    Although the location is not correct according to the documentation, when I go to courseware it doesn’t give me the options that it does in the documentation. Specifically starting under Role: Student and Teachers on down.

    So, at this point I am really confused about what I should be seeing (according to the documentation) and what I am actually seeing.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Brian

    @flyveren

    Did you run the installation under controlepanel

    Under the control panel? I uploaded the .zip file to the plugin directory. I think went to Plugins and activate. There was not another option. That is where some of my confusion is because I wasn’t seeing what the documentation says I should.

    I uploaded the files via ftp and activated the plugin. I just deleted everything and installed them via “control panel” of uploading and activating and I have the same results.

    No, that is what I’m trying to say. That option NEVER becomes available. I don’t know what version of WP they used for the documentation, but I’ve got 3.5.1 running and not much matches the documentation.

    What did you do differently? I am very interested in knowing. To be honest, everything looks the same as I had it with BuddyPress. I just didn’t know what to expect as far as functionality. I’m still not seeing BuddyPress under the Dashboard which is the problem I was having.

    I may need to go backwards in versions to get to where I need to be. Then it seems it is going to be a Theme incompatibility issue. I think…

    Does anyone know if there is anything pretty similar to BuddyPress Courseware? I like the courseware concept. What are my options with BuddyPress and Courseware to get them running together?

    I had BuddyPress 1.6.4 installed and Courseware 0.9.7 installed and I had the same thing happen to me that I’ve been trying to fix. I wonder since Courseware says 1.6 it MEANS 1.6 capatible?

    @gordonre

    HI

    The correct place for the BuddyPress settings menu is Dashboards/Setting/BuddyPress

    It may have been somewhere else in much earlier versions.

    I don’t know anything about Courseware but I don’t see how it could be further nested under BuddyPress in the Dashboard – I’ve never seen any WP settings file except immediately under settings.

    It would be up to the builder of the Courseware plug in to decide where to put it but the options would seem to my unsophisticated eyes to be Dashboard/ or Dashboard/Settings/

    @gordonre

    Previous may have mislead:

    IN addition to Dashboard/Settings/Buddypress there ought to be

    Dashboards/BuddyPress and so

    Dashboard/BuddyPress/xxx is also possibl; perhaps that’s where you expected Courseware to be – but I don’t see that it’s a problem if it is at Settings/Courseware if you have access to the settings you need.

    Thanks to flyveren for helping out.

    In response to GordonRe, I don’t have the setting I need and that is part of the problem.

    Alright, so, I decided try installing BuddyPress and Courseware in a new install. I didn’t use the beta versions this time and I still got the same results as I did before. I even used a BuddyPress Theme this time just to make sure that it wasn’t Theme related.

    Does anyone have any idea of what combination of BuddyPress and Courseware IS working properly? I’d be open to installing earlier versions if necessary. If courseware is not working does anyone have any suggestions on some other plugin that will do the same thing as courseware?

    Thanks!

    Brian

    @jrpmedia

    I have the same issue as ‘brian47374‘.

    I have no control panel area visiable for CourseWare as per this image on the setup instructions on their website:
    courseware control panel
    at:

    WP v3.5.1
    BuddyPres v 1.6.4
    BuddyPress Courseware v 0.97
    BuddyPress Courseware Certificate v0.1

    @brian47374

    I am glad that someone else has the same problem as I do. Again, I will ask what is the correct combination of Buddypress and courseware that will work. Obviously with so many downloads of both people are using it.

    Also, since it is obvious that the issues I presented are not just on my box, what is the course of action of for getting the bugs fixed that are creating these issues?

    I REALLY need to get these things resolved in some manner. I don’t care if that is installing a previous version of Buddypress and Courseware.

    Have either of you actually directed these questions/issues to the appropriate places?

    https://github.com/Courseware/buddypress-courseware/issues

    or the WP forum for the plugin.

    I would also be seeking to get an understanding of whether this plugin is to be supported going forward as there seems to be some differings views I’ve seen and knowing one of the authors they are extremely busy with other projects.

    Be very careful about building sites based on third party plugins, you have to have a fair idea they will be supported or learn the necessary skills to keep them running.
