Definitive List On Speeding Up/Scaling Your Buddypress Site?

Greetings folks,
I would like to receive your advice/experience on building a substantial Buddypress based social-network. I’m testing a site (no users, just me testing) and would like to improve it. (If you think another thread is very helpful regarding speed/scaling, could you please link it?)
Right now all I use is Cloudflare, and the site speed is alright, but nothing great.
Based on other threads, I know that it would be beneficial for site speed if plugin use was kept to a minimum, but what else do you do to increase site speed? Any advice/anecdotes would be appreciated. Especially if you use Cloudflare, as well.
Furthermore, if you have scaled your site to a significant/large user base, what tips do you have?
Any help would be appreciated.
