All my users must select a country when they register
Is there a way of display a small flag of their country under their avatar

Try this plugin (it displays the user’s country based on their IP):

To get the small flag to display directly beneath the logged-in user’s avatar, you could add the shortcode to your sidebar.php template, just before the closing tag of `

`, like so:
