I had to add this module to my WP 2.9.2 setup (I’m not using WPMU) to get the user activation emails to work
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/
After configuring this module, things worked like a charm.
I had the same problem. When you set up WP and you are going to install BP as well. You need to make sure that the Admin email is that same and the URL name that you are doing the install. If not, go change it in the database and it will work. I tried the plugin above and no joy. Took 3 hours to figure this one out.
Hope this helps.
The admin email is the same as the domain name/URL already, I even went into the database to double check.
What you are saying is if the admin email ” This address is used for admin purposes, like new user notification.” after the @example.com doesn’t match the site URL like http://example.com it wont work right?
I believe we even installed from day one like that so I am not sure if that will help. I have a feeling I may need to try upgrading both WP and BP to figure this one out.
I had the same problem, I fixed it by using a plugin called “Mail From” by Andrew Hamilton
