Error message in header and BP Profile ‘Trying to get property of non-object’

We’re having a pretty serious BP hiccup. This error message is appearing for all logged in users in the header and numerous times on their profile page.

Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /www/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-xprofile/classes/class-bp-xprofile-field.php on line 240 Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in /www/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-xprofile/classes/class-bp-xprofile-field.php on line 240.

In addition, we’re unable to access the Media Library and have this additional error message in the WP Admin sidebar about using depreciated arguments.

Here are a few screenshots of the issues.

    Wordpress 4.4.2
    BuddyPress 2.4.3
We’re also running Membership 2 from wpmudev.

    Thanks!

To confirm that some ( maybe all ) of the Notices are due to your theme,
try switching momentarily to a WP theme like 2013.
Do any of the Notices disappear?

Do you have any plugins that affect Profiles?
If so, try deactivating them – check for Notices.

Try deactivating Membership 2 – check for notices.

I’ve done those checks and still I get the error message. When I uninstalled BuddyPress, it fixed most of the issues, but we still have a few lingering things.

Those Notices are tricky to debug – especially the ‘user was initialized’.
Although BP generates that rather aggressive notice, it is due to an issue somewhere else in your installation.
I suspect the same is true re the ‘property of non-object’.
