Love the fact that new posts to forums make the activity feed but, as opposed to new blog posts, these entries do not get auto “excerpted” You can see an example of this at http://buglenotes.com where I recently added a forum post called

“Former Supe LTG Willard Scott passes”

We have members who will undoubtedly leave really long forum posts/replies and you can imagine what this will do to the activity feed. Thinking there might be a simple hack to implement what was done with blog posts but I haven’t figured it out yet

Hmmm. Now that I’m thinking about that and looking at that fn, it should use the mu excerpt for the post if it exists. Doesn’t. Might help with your problem. Users can create a ‘tuned’ excerpt. That’s the purpose of having a separate excerpt box. ‘eh?

That would be for blog posts. You were talking about forum stuff. Totally off topic. Hey, get off my back. It’s early for me.

I don’t know I missed that function. My plan is to attack the activity filters (bp_create_excerpt claims to fake excerpts if nec) and apply this to forum posts somewhere in the process. Hopefully this is all that’s needed given the activity feed just deals with content and shouldn’t care if it has been truncated to an excerpt. Hoping.

@mike, why use a bp function? create a function that cut the text after a limited number of letter and then apply a filter!

I think it’s more simple.. as you want

if you want i can write a plugin, but i’m a lot busy, i think i can work on it on 7 Jen..

@mikepratt i developed a plugin that cut the excerpt BPDEV-FORUM-EXCERPT. Look it working here:

as you can see, it shows only the first 140 word without cutting them and adding 3 consecutive fullstop..
