Excluding role from (almost) everything

    Hi! Any suggestions for how to make a specified user role invisible to Buddy Press? I’ve seen posts on how to exclude a role from Membership Directory lists, but how can I restrict users with a certain role from all BP features: friends, messages, viewing extended profile fields when they edit profile, etc. etc Users in this role should be limited to posting in forums and editing the basic profile fields (these users have a separate registration form, via Gravity Forms User Reg addon).

    Hi @melissa1968

    This will be possible to do but will be quite a big project (unless you can find a plugin that does the job for you).

    You’d need to go through every BP component, picking out all of the various actions that can be done by members. Then you’d have to write your custom code to exclude the given user from from being able to perform that functionality.

    Thanks for the reply. So I guess the next question is, does anyone know of a plug-in that can do this? Or have another suggestion for how to have a category of user that can post to forums but does not appear in or have access to any of the other Buddy Press features?

    I think creating a user role with ‘forum-only’ capabilities is perhaps your best bet. Try asking over at the bbPress support forum. The guys over there are specialists when it comes to forums (bbPress) so you may find some more joy there.
