I upgraded a website to include BuddyPress usng the same instructions used to create a working BuddyPress on another site (same server). The test site has working bbpress forums. In contrast, the new site (www.thechembook.com) fails whenever I try to post something to the forum.

In general terms. what is the best process to use to try to find errors like this one?
In specific terms, how can I go about troubleshooting this new site change?

During the install of the bbpress, I received an error that the .htaccess couldn’t be written. This is strange because they were marked 777 during the install (just during the install!). I copied the suggested content to the correct location.

Oh – man!

I found the problem. The setting Enable discussion forum within group settings was not checked. Postings work now
