"Forums for Groups" vs "Site Wide Forums"

Tried to set up site as “Forums for Groups” or “Site Wide Forums” as per

    Installing Group and Sitewide Forums

As far as I understand the different is only one is Group Integration and the other is Central Discussion Area, right?

In fact, both have the same feature and capability in terms of setting Forum Attribute Type: as “Forum” or “Category”, Status, Visibility, Parent settings etc.

The only thing I see, is that with ‘Forums for Groups’, user needs to request to ‘join’ group. Other than than it’s all the same, isn’t it? did I read that correctly?

    Basically yes.
The Sitewide Forums are available to everyone, while the Group Forums are a private forums for a specific group. Other than that, they just share all the normal forum functions.

Thanks Trifon. But on Sitewide Forums, I can set it to ‘private’ or ‘hidden’ too right? so, just wondering what are the differences and advantages of one or the other?

@batmanfan You can make a forum private, public or hidden.
