Global menu or do I have to hard code this?

We would like to add a dropdown menu to the main buddypress bar that is essentially a copy of a custom menu in the main blog. Can I call that specific menu and have it show up when on a member’s page or do I have to hard code the links in order to make them “global”?
Right now putting in wp_nav_menu( array(‘menu’ => ‘top menu’ )); works fine on the main blog, but doesn’t show up when on the member blogs.
I’d like to be able to update the main menu through the menu interface in the main blog and not mess with code each time a link is changed. Is this possible?
