How to add data to users’s fields from buddypress

Hello all, I’m new to BuddyPress and I wonder how to complete an user field.
I want to use the WordPress’s register_new_user() and after be allowed to add datas to some fields handled by BuddyPress (such as Display Name).
How could I do that ?
