how to add user as moderator to root blog?

I have added a few members as moderators to the ‘primary root’ blog in my wp3.0rc2 install.
They do show up as moderators, but I can’t figure out how to get the buddybar to work for them, so that the root blog shows up as one of their blogs.How do I do this?
Basically when they login and see their buddybar, it should show the sites that I made them moderators of, so that they have quick access to the admin and new post etc..
