How to create forums?
-
I’ve just installed BuddyPress.
How do I set up forums? There are no forums set up and I can’t see where to do that.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

In the Dashboard there is a “Forums Setup” link under the “BuddyPress” menu. Should be a simple two click process assuming you’re running a stable version (i.e. 1.1.3. I don’t believe the bbPress files are included in the trunk versions).
Hi,
For some reason I’m also experiencing the same problem with setting up my forum.
I created a fresh installation of WordPress MU and Buddypress, then I setup the forum as a fresh installation and it shows on my site but I cannot do anything with it.
There doesn’t seem to be anyway to add items to the forum, discussions, topics etc.
My address is http://club.fenpaddle.co.uk
I’m not very technical but I’ve managed to get this far and I’ve also setup another wordpress website at http://www.fenpaddle.co.uk.
Can someone please suggest what I should be doing next?
Many thanks
Roly
Forums are now linked with your groups, so you first need to make a group and that group wil contain a forum. It’s as easy as that. Unfortunately if you want a standard (classic) forum, you will have to install bbpress seperately and just use deep integration with that.
Hi Xevo,
Thank you very much for your help and quick response.
It’s all working now
Thx Xevo, it works great now :o)
Hello,
I’ve a problem I hope I can get help on. I’ve successfully set up forums under the buddypress menu. However, when I set up a group (and enable discussion forums) I’m still unable to post a new topic. I click on the ‘post new’ link and nothing happens. Have I missed something along the line? thanks
I have the same problem here. after the deep dive installation the Forum part of buddypress stoped to work. Any idea why?
I followed this tutorial for the deep integration
http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/07/17/integrating-buddypress-wordpress-mu-and-bbpress/
Thanks for any help!
I think I found a bug..
the solution to this little issue is.
Go to your bb-config.php, find the line where it sais “$bb->uri”
it is probably
http://yourdomain.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress/
it should be the URL to your forum set up. For ex.http://yourdomain.com/forums/
Then it nicely copies all the forum topics opened through Buddypress to the BBpress instaltion.
Now I have to make it look like the rest of the website.
have a look > http://ecoflare.eu
instalation of WPMU 2.8.6 & Buddypress 1.1.3 & bbPress 1.0.2
nothing
I really like how you separated the community and pulled the slugs out of the menu except for that. I might borrow that idea for our site to unclutter my nav bar.
If you have any ideas you could share, please pm me.
bedo02, followed your advice multiple ways. Been posting quite a bit and would love some code excerpts for how to make certain things show up in the forums. For example, with the one-click, only groups show up, and I’d like to replicate what BuddyPress does here https://buddypress.org/forums (displays “Main Themes”).
I’m able to access bbPress’s admin, but I don’t know how to make the forums and posts made there show up in BuddyPress. Been posting and could really use some code examples.

I bet we don’t need to do “deep integration” anymore, we just need to figure out what additional code to add to whatever file it is that BuddyPress uses to display the forums page.
I’d really appreciate a code sample.
Cheers,
Dainis
My code attempt is here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/how-to-access-to-bbpress-admin-from-buddypress
Hi Dainismichel, I am not sure what you are trying to figure out. Send me an email at admin@ecoflare.eu I can try to help you.
Thanks, do these threads do a good job of describing what I’m after?

Is there a programmer available who can show me how to do this via skype and provide the appropriate code and procedure? Please PM me your price.
…waiting to hear from someone on price, or for someone to share the appropriate code here at the forum…
I’ve talked with two elance programmers, both of whom kind of backtracked on this issue. It would be super cool, if buddypress.org could share its code and method for displaying main themes.
