How to create new filter(s) in the Groups Directory

Hey,
In groups directory, there is two ajax filters (All Groups, My Groups). I want to add a third filter right there. How may i customize global.js, or ajax.php so i can filter by my own criteria?
We are using BP version 1.5.6
