How to upgrade

So this is maybe weird, but in WP plugins it is no longer giving me the message to upgrade to the latest BP. Umm… I have 1.2.6 so do I just backup, deactive BP plugins and add the new BP? Do I need to upgrade to 1.2.7 and then 1.2.8 or is it OK to go directly to the latest? Did I miss upgrade instructions somewhere? Sorry if these are dumb questions… If I could just click upgrade it would be simple, but manually doing it I am not sure of the steps.
