Hello,
You will need to edit the “home page” and turn off comments for that page http://www.blog.web6.org/disable-comments-wordpress-3-1-tutorial/
or you will need to make a custom page in your themes template folder to not include the comments section.
In your WordPress settings, what have you set your “show as front page” to?
@ islandcastaway i tried but was unsuccessful. It seem like all the buddypress themes do the same. with the sample page. as before on the previous buddypress 1.2 i would set the sample page as static frontpage and would only see edit this entry.
@Paul Gibbs Yes, when i make the sample page as the static front page it would show add a reply.
From what I’ve read from the link islandcastaway posted it’s seems that the pages “sample page” is acting as a wordpress theme instead of a buddypress theme page.
Hoping for a reply i downgraded to 1.2.10 and th sample page looks like before edit this entry, and there is no “add a reply” like on buddypress 1.5 default theme. So i am assuming default buddypress 1.5 theme is acting as a wordpress theme. Please please please tell me what i can do or is there going to be a fix?
I can’t even understand what exactly you’ve done, or are trying to do. Helping you will come in due course
For the second time: In your WordPress settings, what have you set your “show as front page” to? If it is a custom Page, in BuddyPress’ Component screen, what component have you mapped it to?
Maybe @echoman means that comments are enabled on his pages? Not sure why this would differ between BP 1.2.10 and BP 1.5.
Maybe. If it’s a case for a manually added page, you’d have to turn them off, so that makes a bit of sense. The pages the Upgrader adds have comments disabled automatically.
lol i am sorry for my newb question and not making it clear.
Step by step of what i did .
1.Originally i downloaded WordPress manually uploaded. Set up everything manually.
2. I manually uploaded Buddypress 1.2.9 set up everything. I then went to dashboard/settings/reading
Front page displays- I selected a static page (select below) I selected for the Front page > sample page.
Then i went over to dashboard/pages/all post, selected “sample page” renamed it “main” .
3.Then i went to home page. The “sample page” which is what i selected as my homepage would show up As the home page. So whatever is on the sample page i would remove and re-edit. On the bottom of the page would just show “edit this entry”.
4.Today i went to my site i saw that i had updates. So i updated to the latest buddypress1.5 .
that’s when everything changed. My home page had “add a reply” as if it were a regular WordPress blog. Or on a regular WordPress page you’d have “add a reply” on the bottom of the page.
So on the sample page which is what i set up as my home page. Would look just like that on a regular WordPress page. With no Buddypress installed.
If you’d like i could make screenshots.
Yes @BooneGorges has it correct.
I forgot to add that i removed the WordPress that i had with Buddypress 1.5 and manually started again with a fresh install. i went over to WordPress.org and download the Buddypress version 1.2.10
Previously everything buddypress 1.2.9 was like before. no “add a reply” was visible.
But before i added Buddypress 1.2.10 i just checked with the default WordPress theme twenty eleven.
I selected sample page as my homepage and sure enough “add a reply” was visible. So that’s where i get the feeling that the buddypress default theme is acting as a regular wordpress theme.
Ok i made 2 screenshots of 2 different sites i have with 2 different versions of buddypress. Hope this makes a bit more sense of what I’m referring to

This is buddypress with buddypress 1.2.10

I can confirm this.
I also have a fresh install of the latest wordpress and buddypress 1.5. The page creation and editing page is missing the…

I have spent a while fiddling around with this. Even installed a couple of third party modules to try and force it but nothing’s working. I can only assume this is something that has been turned off in the core.
Hope this helps.
@braindeadave
Yes i now know its the default theme for a fact because i went my file manager(public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes) replaced the current theme to the former buddypress theme extracted it and went back to the homepage and the leave a reply not add a reply does not show.
Still hoping for a response. Before this reply was 13 replies which is bad luck lol. So is there some way i can remove the “leave a reply” and where would i find this in the bp-default theme?
Bump
It would be nice to get a response please.
No need to bump more than once a day. We are all volunteers!
– Dashboard > Pages > the name of the post you want to edit.
– Find and click the “Screen Options” button. Make sure the “Discussion” box is checked.
– A “Discussion” box should appear. Uncheck “Allow comments”. Update the post.
Thank you boone that worked and that was all i wanted to know and learn it’s a learning curve .I respect that there are volunteers i actually don’t like bumping so trust my i apologize for that. Out of frustration i think you’d understand. Anyways you’re a lifesaver and i won’t bump threads anymore .I know the core team etc, are working hard to get things working. I am now a happy soldier!!
