Impossible to add users to group if it’s a Private group

On trying to invite users to a private group, I have no button that allows me to do it.
If I request to be in that group with another user account, In the admin/requests tab I see the request, and I press accept, and it gives me a message asking me if I was sure I wanted to do this, with only a try again button, which I pressed and takes me back to the group page, without having accepted anyone.
I am using WordPress version: 3.4.2; buddypress version 1.6.1 on a clean instalation and the default theme.
