In Forums (Buddypress), how do I create a category of Forums.

In the Forums tab, when a user creates a new thread, I would like to be able for him or her to create the new topic, or go to an existing topic/thread within a Forum block. For instance, I’d like to section my Forum to Chicago, Benton, Farmington, etc. As you might have noticed these a cities in Illinois. I would like my members to post to the appropriate Forum ‘catgory’ so to speak, so that their thread will be in the right category for the right demographic in this case. Structure would be something like:

Chicago [click here to start new topic in the Chicago forum]
    Topic1
    Topic2

    Farmington
    Topic1
    Topic2

    Benton
    Topic1..

In the current BP system, you’d need to create groups for each of your cities.
Then enable the discussion forum for each group and you should be good.

You might be more interested in using the bbPress forum plugin:

An example of the bbPress plugin in action can be found here:

Full BuddyPress integration with bbPress is scheduled for the next major release of BP, v1.6.
