Individually-moderated groups for ‘curated’ discussion

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to offer.
My WP/BP site is set up to automatically approve comments by users who have been approved in the past, which works fine for us.
However, I need to set things up so one user can pre-moderate every comment on a group or forum post – a curated discussion.
Is this possible without changing the global setting?
