Install Buddypress with Timber theme

Has anyone installed Buddypress on a site using the Timber theme? Timber uses Twig for template rendering, and as a result Buddypress does not work right out of the box. Any experience or guidance is tremendously appreciated. WP theme is 4.9.8.
