Installing WPMU over WP, just to get Buddypress

    I have a WP, not a WPMU site. I understand buddypress does not work on WP, but I want it. so here’s my question:

    Can I simply upgrade my WP site to WPMU, install buddypress, but not have to use any of the additional functionality of WPMU and not have to learn/administer all sorts of new things in WPMU? In other words, upgrade to WPMU, just to get buddypress, without complicating my life?
