Is Buddypress’ “Username” field mandatory?

    Since WordPress already has its own Username field, it makes the registration and mention process very confusing to have two different username fields with the same label.

    I tried to remove the buddypress username field but it causes every existing user’s profile page to be blank, and new registration would also stop working (redirect to home page after submit).

    Any solution for this?

    The BuddyPress username field is mandatory. There’s no way to remove it without breaking functionality.

    Then isn’t it weird to have two fields both called Username?
    Or is there a way to hide one of them?

    I’m not sure why you have 2? There’s only supposed to be 1. Do you have a screenshot or a link you can post?

    Here is the link to the registration form.

    As you can see, the Username under “Account Details” apparently is the wordpress defauly username. And the Username on the right side is the Buddypress one. Did I configure something wrong?

    Which theme is that? BuddyPress doesn’t ask for 2 usernames. The WordPress username and the BuddyPress username are one and the same. It looks as though your theme is asking for it twice

    I have the same issue. I can’t remove the profile details requesting a username but it’s duplicating the account details request for username: https://www.bosslady.co.uk/register/ . Has this been resolved?

    It’s not the field naming as it was in the other case – mine are set to ID=1.
