Line breaks don't appear in Multi-line Text Box

I’m using a multi-line text box in an xprofile registration form but the line and paragraphs breaks aren’t appearing. Is this a bug?

No they are filtered out. Needs a ticket raising no real reason why autop shouldn’t be allowed.
