Logging in doesn’t immediately show I’m logged it

When I log in on an incognito window, it redirects me to the website’s homepage and doesn’t show that I’m logged in (ie. my avatar doesn’t show up and the user menu still says log in OR register). If I then go into a post, it then shows that I’m logged in. What could be causing this issue? Any help greatly appreciated.
