Lost Password is crazy

I would say 97% of people who sign up have to do the lost password thing. Something with usability is off.

    Anyone else have this happen?

Whenever I signup for a site it gives me a random password. I immediately go and change it to something I remember.

There should be a plugin where the user can choose the PW.

No site does this anymore. You sign up choose your password and then it sends that password in an email with a verify link. I have 153 member and 100 of them had to do the forgot password because they did not change the password and deleted the email. I changed the text in the sign up to tell them a temporary password will show and to change it asap. What file is the email text in? I want to put a reminder in that activation email to alert them to change password.

    Thanks

I have experienced this phenom a lot as an admin as well. I am also a believer that the user should set their password on signup.

There was some discussion on this forum a while ago about someone developing a plugin that allows users to define passwords themselves. Anyone know if there’s been any progress on that?

Would certainly be useful – I’m beta testing at the moment, and that’s one of the most requested features from my users.

This is actually not a problem. There is a famous plugin in wpmu which will allow users to input password when register:

Hmmm. Interesting feedback. I haven’t launched our site yet, but was initially using the “allow users to choose password” plugin above but then took it off…. I will have to reconsider… I figured most websites just generate the password for you, so usability should be the same, but now that I think about it, I’m wrong… most websites actually let you choose….. at least the ones I’m recollecting do…I’m sure there are exceptions…

Yeah $50 for just that plugin is a little steep… I’d rather support Nicola to make it.

should be a core option. The admin can choose to have a random password or let user input.
