MAMP & email

Given many of you have mentioned you dev in a MAMP environment, can someone point me to a good resource on how to set up an email server to work in a MAMP setup? I am trying to debug this default user role issue but I can’t even sign up in my MAMP BP install because the activate emails don’t get sent. I purchased MailServe for Leopard but am clearly not configuring it properly. Thank You,

    Mike

Use SMTP instead, more information here: http://subscribe2.wordpress.com/2008/05/15/smtp-mailer/

Looks easy enough thanks BUT…..(shows ignorance) what is the “outgoing mail server” on a MAMP install? That’s what every solution I try keeps asking me and I don’t know what to put down. Do i have to install one…(thought postfix was the one that came standard on Macs)

using smtp, you use the outgoing mail server at your xDSL provider or hoster.

Note: Sometimes have to use a different port number than 25 (I have to use 587). You usually get this information from the support page at your xDSL provider or hoster.

looked like a perfect solution and I have it all installed with the same smtp info my Mail client uses to send mail but when I do a test signup in BP, nothing happens and I never receive the validation email
