Members activity tab URL redirects to site.com/members/

    Recently (probably after upgrading to the latest BP version, but not 100% sure)
    I’ve noticed that after clicking on any member’s Activity tab (which navigates to site.com/members/<username>/activity/)
    I’m getting redirected to site.com/members/<username>/.
    At the same time all other links to member’s profile (e.g. from the username in activity updates, from user’s avatars, etc) are already navigating to site.com/members/<username>/.

    This redirect is apparently taking some additional time and now navigating from any other BP tabs back to member’s Activity tab happens much-much slower than before, probably 2-3 sec slower. Refreshing or manually navigating to site.com/members/<username>/ is as fast as it always was.

    I’ve disabled all plugins except Buddypress, switched to 2014 theme, emptied child theme’s functions.php and bp-custom.php, re-activated Buddypress, but the issue is still present and affecting all the sites in the multisite.
    My setup is:
    WP: 4.0 (multisite)
    BP: 2.1.1 (network-activated, with BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG)

    Needless to say, I’m in desperate need for some help with this issue.

    Found where the problem was.
    And it’s not Buddypress.
    Varnish reverse proxy was not handling the mentioned redirect properly and was causing delays.
    So it’s RESOLVED by modifying Varnish config.

    PS
    The nature of the mentioned redirect (and its purpose) is still beyond me.
