Messages bug ?

    I just logged into testbp.org

I went to “My Profile” > “Messages” > “Compose”.

Then being at the field named “Send to” I am writing for example the name “andy peatling” or just “andy p”

Then I can see a short info-message named “Loading”. But: nothing happens.

Do you guys see the same strange behaviour ?

So how to select someone to send a message to ?

BTW: I am using the latest version of FireFox-browser.

Autocomplete only works for friends, if you are not friends you must type their username.

    – so why does it still say “loading” then ?

    – it is hard to figure out that I have to type the username (I guess users are just being lost at that field…..well I was at least….)

I think the send-to flied should validate on Name BP from “Base Profile” as well for friend or non-friend, of coz, it should preserve auto-completion for friend only.

Most user change to their Full name or nickname, non-friend user usually try to compose to a user’s Full name but can’t be validated.

Example: if I want to send a message to a “web admin” which shown in member list, however his/her username is admin1.. it’s quite confusing when they try to type in “web admin” on send-to field but got a error.

I do not understand why simple things like a “send-to field” are being made more complicated than they actually are ?

This auto-complete is probably nice if somebody understands how it works, but for a user new to the website, this is just a point at which he will most likely get an error-message and walk away. JavaScript and AJAX should only be used when it provides a value-add.

Why not just create a simple drop-down-field with all names of friends ?

The key for BuddyPress is to keep things as SIMPLE as possible.

There is a reason why Facebook, Craigslist, POF.com, etc. are successful: KISS

    Keep It Simple & Stupid
