Messages – Inbox and Sentbox – Excerpt Issue

Any message that contains an apostrophe is shown as \’. For example.
I\’m watching this TV show.
I don\’t really care.
The message itself is fine. The \ only appears in the excerpt on the Inbox and Sent box.
Anyone know what may be causing this?
Custom Theme, Latest Version of BP.
