Multisite-how to restrict Activity Stream pickup of posts & comments to certain category(ies) of pos

wp 3.2.1 bp 1.2.9 (or 1.5 beta 2) multisite setup bp installed on subsite.
Is it possible to restrict the ‘pickup’ of posts/comments by the bp activity stream to certain post categories. ?
If so how ? Way beyond my capabilities !
