Need initial advice on custom design capabilities

    @theatereleven

    If anyone can help me with this, I’ll owe you big time. I’d even be willing to pay for a consult if needed.

    Here’s the deal: I have a new WordPress site with public profile pages. Right now I’m doing it with users as custom post types, and using ACF fields to build out the profile pages in precise detail including multiple image upload sections, WYSIWYG areas, etc. Then using S2 member to grant individuals rights to their profile page, but that’s a tedious pain in the arse.

    Question: I want a way for a user to register and fill out their own page without me involved. But I need precise customizable options. I don’t want a social network, so I don’t want a lot of the stuff that will come on a BuddyPress profile page. Will BuddyPress let me customize the heck out of the profile page? I’m a PHP lightweight and a CSS heavyweight.

    ACF and custom post types have spoiled me because I can place anything exactly where I want it.

    Any help is greatly appreciated. I don’t have a lot of time to get this done.

    Thank you!!!

    Anyone on this? I purchased S2 member and User Roles pro in hopes to do public profiles, but that was a waste of money. So it looks like BuddyPress is in fact the way for me to go, but I don’t want to dive in unless profile pages can be heavily customized, down to the last pixel.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi @theatereleven,

    I’d say that what you aim for is perfectly possible with BuddyPress. You could the following, just suggestions:

    • Your users could register themselves;
    • Just active the Extended Profile component;
    • Use Extended Profiles Fields so that your users can add information when signing up or later;
    • And you could customize the appearance customizing the template the way you want.

    Maybe there is a better solution, but with BuddyPress you would get already built-in, profiles, profile fields, register process/page, user roles and etc.

    Nice man, thanks for that. I’ll look out for the extended profile component, and make sure it’s activated.

    I appreciate your time!

    I’m finally back on this – have installed the new BuddyPress.

    Have a problem: there are no WYSIWYG editors as option profile fields. I’m trying to find a solution to this – have you seen any?

    I also need to be able to use if and then statements so profile fields that are not filled out don’t show in the template.

    Just purchased the book on theming BP, but if you have any pointers on the above two items, that would rock. Thanks!
