No spaces in username

During new user registration, one can type name in the username textbox with spaces which is then edited by buddypress with no spaces.
I would like to set that particular username textbox property to only have inputs with no spaces on the buddypress registration form.
If someone types a username with spaces there would be a prompt that asks him/her to eliminate spaces.
I have very limited coding skills.
Please help.
