Page weight for a theme?

    Hi guys,

I’m wondering if anyone here as any input as to what is an acceptable page weight for a BuddyPress theme. I’ve looked at Facebook and they serve over 270k of CSS alone and that’s not considering the JS and anything on the page itself.

Yet they serve a seemingly acceptable experience. Yeah they probably have some lightning quick servers and other optimisations behind the scenes.

I’ve got a theme here that when JS is minified comes to around 70k, and CSS of similar.

The images are all on a sprite that comes to 59k so in total i’m at around 200k.

Going back a few years now the general rule was 120k for your entire page, is 200k acceptable here?

This is more of a general question rather than a BuddyPress or a WordPress question. I would not worry about 200k. Obviously, the quicker the better. Load some of your favourite sites into http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ and see what you find

Great tip dude, many thanks. Wasn’t sure what I was looking for in reply here, but this will do perfectly.

Better than manually looking into the resources of a page lol.
