per_page no working on groups page anymore with nouveau

Hello,
I opened groups-loop.php and modified following code line
if ( bp_has_groups( bp_ajax_querystring( 'groups' ) . '&per_page=12' ) ) )but it shows loader all the time without any results. Is there any way to redude 20 groups per page?
