Placing an image in the header of the default theme

I would like to place an image in the header to go along with the site title. I don’t won’t to replace the header itself. The original header is made up of a repeating image and collapses along with the browser window when you adjust the window. That’s why I want to keep the the banner as is.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Surely some can answer this question?

just go into header.php and add a link to the image that you want to use. You’ll see h1 logo and you could put it there or before but you’ll have to fix it via css to make it look right.
