(possible solution found) Every Single Time-stamp on my site is off by 7 hours!
-
I am using Buddypress 1.2.7 and WordPress 3.04. Both latest versions you can get.
I am using custom theme, but that should not matter.
All of my timestamps on my site are 7 hours off. Every single one!
The problem is not being caused by timezone, because I set my wordpress time to Denver, and I live in Denver!
Please help!!!! Please!

@johnjamesjacoby, and @djpaul, I created a ticket: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/3002
With several screenshots of the defect.
Thanks!
There is no patch yet because no one has figured out what’s causing it in the cases described here.
Anyone who is experiencing the problem: Do you have access to your database? Look in a BP table (wp_bp_activity, let’s say). The timestamps there should be in UTC. So if you’re in Denver, they should read 7 hours earlier than your local time. Is that the case, or are you seeing a different offset? (Or none at all?)
Hello @boonebgorges.
I do have all access to my database.
Where do I look in bp-activities.php to see if they are in UTC, or if that is what you are asking…
I don’t quite know where you are asking me to look…
thanks @bigjimmysisco, you saved me from creating a duplicate ticket!
I hope buddypress 1.2.8, or a patch for this comes soon.
Anybody who can’t have wrong times, or whoever mentioned it in the first page, look Here to see if there are any important bugs fixed that would have affect on you if you went back to 1.2.5.2, too see if the times are correct.
Btw, so sorry Moderators and Admins for this topic being the center of attention for the past day or so,
When is 1.2.8 coming out so this problem is fixed?
No more asking when the problem will be fixed until someone had said that they have found a fix!
@bigjimmysisco Access to your database is different from access to your files. Your host might provide you with a tool called PHPMyAdmin. If so it would be on your hosting control panel. User it to locate the table called wp_bp_activity and then have a look at the date_recorded column
Ok @boonebgorges I proved myself smart enough to get into my PHPMyAdmin I am in there.. I am looking for wp-bp-activity but can’t find it…
There are only these options
Show MySQL system variables
Processes
Character Sets and Collations
Databases
Export
Import
Log outIt’ll be under Databases. Then you will have to locate the database where WP is installed, likely called wordpress or something similar
ok.
Found it @boonebgorges
Latest Activity: Date Time on Website “replied 7 hours, 32 minutes ago” In Mountain Time zone….
Date Recorded on MySQL, “01:37:03” So it matches with date recorded on mySQL, 7 hours earlier
Ok, that’s helpful. That means the data is bring stored correctly. I’ll do some experiments to see what I can find.
Thanks a bunch! If you need anything else to help you or anyone else let me know.
I tried going into bp-core to see if I can fix it, and I dug myself in a deeper hole….. now all activities say “active 90 years ago” mmhm…..
hello:
I also have this problem about timestamps. I can’t find the MySQL under bluehost…. Where do I find it?
I have this timestamp problem also…. can somebody help mee!!!????????!!? or fix your plugin because mine are off by 9 hours.
Aarrrg!
@ytylol1, don’t mess with anything right now.
Just wait to see if they can make a patch for us
Well what do we do??? mmhmm….. just have an off time?
All there is to be done now is to let Boone get on and investigate what’s happening. if and when a solution is found no doubt a patch will be produced that affected installs will have to add to their core files.
Considering a pretty lengthy amount of time spent on the time stamp issue I’m amazed that there is this issue still.
@boonengorges doubt this helps but the last time this issue reared it’s ugly head was noted in this thread:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/time-offset-still-present-in-bp-1-2-6/and resulted in additions and patch on this ticket:
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2203/
(omgpizza.patch)Thought that would really be a final end to this matter
Spent another hour looking at this. Still can’t recreate or understand what might be happening.
To those who say this is a problem: can you list all of the active plugins and theme that you are using? Something that would be very handy is if you could temporarily disable all plugins other than BuddyPress, revert back to the BP-Default theme, create new Activity Stream content, and letting us know if the problem still exists.
EDIT: tested this on trunk, fwiw.
I find it quite perplexing that 1.2.7 has been out for several weeks, and this problem is just coming out now (and only on a relatively small number of installations). Is it possible that it has something to do with the new year and hosts’ local time settings not working properly? Is anyone having the problem with WP timestamps as well?
Does anyone experiencing the problem feel comfortable sending me the credentials to FTP into their installations and run a test or two? It is nearly impossible to troubleshoot when I can’t reproduce the problem. Email me [buddypress.org username] at gmail.com
@djpaul, @boonebgorges, the reason why it’s several weeks into 1.2.7, is because I just set up my wordpress on Thursday. All of this is new to me, and I just installed buddypress. I am using the default theme, with No extra plugins installed just for this problem.
@boonebgorges, do you mean give you the username and psw do all of my sites files? Or SQL?
@hnla That patch is outdated, but since it’s just a dew lines in the core, it souldn’t matter..
Should I change the lines in bp-core-templatetags.php as listed in the omgpizza patch? Just to try?
I have been stickiing to buddypress version 1.2.5.2 because it’s the only one that has correct timestamps, well latest version anyway..
When I saw this topic I just listed that I had the virus too.
@boonebgorges I am not really comfortable on giving you access to my sites files… I am just not comfortable. Sorry. Not that I don’t trust you.
I have had this problem since buddypress 1.2.6 was released, but I seeked support over at WPMU.org but they were stumped also.
I have no problem with the wordpress time because when somebody posts a comment, the time is correct on “posted time”
