Posts to private groups don't show up in activity stream

Hello All,
I am testing posting in the Activity Stream in a private group. The desired result is that such a post shows up in the all user’s main activity stream that are a member of that group.
This does not appear to be the case because in testing the only way I can see the post in the Activity Stream is to click on ‘My Groups’, where it then shows up.
Other users that are also members of the group that I posted to won’t know to do this and would miss my post because it does not show up in the root activity stream.
Is there any way to make this work?
