Pre loading members

Hi,
I’m working on a high school reunion website. We have good data on our class membership (excel, etc) I would like to load basic data into the membership directory tables and then email an ‘activate’ when contacted by the member.

Does this sound reasonable, possible, advisable?
Any caveats?

I’m not aware of an Excel importer. Perhaps try searching the WordPress Plugin Directory for one.

I was thinking more of going direct to wp_bp_xprofile_data in MySql. rather than an uploader program. Is the interaction with wp_users table and others too complex to achieve my goal of pre loading information?

I would like the directory to reflect all members of the reunion class, not just those who have registered or logged in.

Thanks Henry.

The writer of a cvs loader Seem interested in exploring the idea of creating a loader.

But I’m still concerned as to whether this is a brilliant (ha!) idea or fought with dragons. This is way over my skill set.
