Problem with menu links – can create them but links are broken.

Hello,
First time here. I just loved buddypress and have already started my own social network but i am in need of some help. My problem is whenever i add a a new menu item with the hook add_action(bp_nav_items), no matter what i do i´m not able to access the linked page, receiveing the 404 error page.
All i want to do is add a new directory inside my theme called “rankings” and make it accessible. the url im trying to use is http://www.domain.com/rankings. Do i need to use any other function to make buddypress understand i have a new directory and that i want to access it? If i understood correctly, i am supposed to create a new directory called “rankings” within the root directory, and them inside of it create an index.php with hooks to header/footer/sidebar.
Please give me some light.
